HARLAN — The two-time defending 13th Region champion Whitley County Lady Colonels put an end to North Laurel’s season by defeating the Lady Jaguars during first round action of the 13th Region Volleyball Tournament.
Whitley County won the first set, 25-8, before rolling to a 25-15 win in the second set and a 25-18 victory in the third set.
“I liked our focus coming into this match and we had a three good days of preparation,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “North Laurel had been playing really well and we knew that coming in. We got off to a great start and maintained our level of play up until the third set when we kind of hit a wall. We got a little scattered and wasn’t playing fundamentally sound volleyball.
“I was pleased with how we got it back together being down 16-10, but finished with a 15-2 run to finish the set,” he added. “Our girls are excited to advance to the semifinals on Monday. We have to work on some things between now then, but please with this effort today.”
