MONTICELLO — it’s been a rollercoaster of the season for the Steven Nelson’s North Laurel Jaguars.
They started their 2024 campaign with wins over Bell County and Whitley County before dropping their next six games in a row.
Most teams would have thrown in the towel, but the Jaguars recovered by defeating Harlan County last week while continuing to surprise by going on the road to hand Wayne County its third loss of the season with a 21-14 win.
North Laurel (4-6) will travel to play Montgomery County Friday during first round action of the Class 5A playoffs.
“Very proud of the way our kids played,” Nelson said. “They had some miscues but they did not drop their heads and kept playing and believing they could win the game.
“I’m really proud of the way they responded and the preparation that went into this,” he added. “They played good hard nosed football and that is what we have preached all year.”
