LOUISVILLE — The Corbin Lady Redhound soccer team had the experience of a lifetime last week when they attended the United States Women’s Soccer National Team game against Argentina on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
This is the same U.S. Women’s Soccer National Team that won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics just a few months ago.
Corbin’s players and coaches had plenty to cheer about as the U.S. Women’s National Team triumphed with a 3-0 victory, marking their first game in Kentucky since 2004.
“When I realized the team was going to be in Louisville, I contacted a rep with U.S. soccer to inquire about group tickets and he was able to arrange for us to do a pregame on field experience,” Corbin coach Hannah Goins said.
Not only was Goins able to secure tickets for the team, but she was able to get even more.
“When I ordered the group tickets, he asked if we may be interested in pregame/on field experience because they needed a team to help out,” she said. “Our team got the opportunity to place the Center Circle banner on the field before warm ups, remove it before it the kickoff, and hang out on the sideline/endline of the field. The Center Circle Banner is a large branded banner displayed in the center circle of a soccer field during pre-game ceremonies that announces the game to the crowd and TV audience.
“The team also got the opportunity to meet some of the players following the game,” Goins added. “U.S. National Team Goalkeeper Mandy Haught actually signed and gave our goalkeeper, Peyton Canada, the cleats she wore in the game.”
Goins said the experience was “an amazing opportunity for the team.”
“We watched the Olympic Games together during preseason, so the girls were really excited to see them play in person,” she said. “This is the first time the team has played close enough for us to be able the attend, and to be able to do an on field experience on top of that was awesome.”
