Elam’s five passing TDs lead Corbin to a 48-13 rout over Russell County 

CORBIN — Luke Salmon’s Corbin Redhounds are moving on to second round action of the Class 4A playoffs thanks to an easy, 48-13, win over outmatched Russell County.

Corbin improved to 10-1 while scoring the game’s first 48 points.

Mr. Football candidate Kade Elam threw five touchdowns in the win and now has 33 on the season.

The Redhounds will host Wayne County Friday after the Cardinals managed to slip past Whitley County on Friday.

Corbin is 31-6 overall against the Cardinals and have won the past five meetings between the two teams which includes three shutout wins.

The Redhounds defeated Wayne County last season, 63-0.

Corbin took control early once again thanks to its passing game as Kade Elam’s 14-yard touchdown strike Noah Cima gave their team a 6-0 lead at the 6:45 mark of the first quarter.

Elam continued to light up Russell County’s defense minutes later, connecting with Colton Creekmore for a 34-yard touchdown pass, moving the Redhounds’ lead to 13-0 with 3:08 remaining in the first quarter.

The duo hooked up again with 33 seconds left in the first quarter for a 70-yard touchdown strike, giving Corbin a 20-0 lead.

The Redhounds’ Trey Person got in the scoring action on Corbin’s ensuing possession, finding paydirt after a one-yard run while pushing his team’s lead to 27-0 (9:06 left in the second quarter). 

Elam threw his fourth touchdown of the game with 4:23 left as Tayton Cox was the recipient of a 24-yard pass, giving the Redhounds a commanding 34-0 lead. 

Elam and Cima hooked up for the second time with 1:50 remaining in the first half, thanks to a 49-yard touchdown strike, as Corbin’s lead grew to 41-0. 

The Redhounds continued their dominance in the second half as Cam Estep took the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown to make the score, 48-0.

Russell County managed to get on the scoreboard right before the end of the third quarter, making the score, 48-6.

The Lakers added another touchdown with 1:30 left in the game, making the final score, 48-13.
