TWO DOWN, THREE TO GO: Elam throws five TDs during Corbin’s 56-3 rout of Wayne County

CORBIN — Taking care of business while no need for working overtime.

That basically summed up Corbin’s 56-3 rout of Wayne County during Friday’s second round action of the Class4A playoffs.

The Redhounds (11-1) scored early and often and never looked back during their 53-point win.

Quarterback Kade Elam continued his dominance against opposing teams, throwing for more than 200 yards while finishing with five touchdown passes in only two quarters of work. He went over 3,000 passing yards on the season during the win while increasing his passing touchdown total to 38.

Noah Cima was on the receiving end of two of Elam’s touchdown passes while Colton Creekmore also had two touchdown receptions. Cam also had a touchdown reception while returning a punt for a score. Cole Stevens and Clay Akins added rushing touchdowns.

The win advances Corbin to Friday’s Class 4A, Region 4 championship game. The Redhounds will be the host but their opponent hasn’t been determined yet.

Corbin wasted no time setting off their offensive fireworks, scoring 37 seconds into the game as Kade Elam connected with Noah Cima for a 30-yard touchdown strike, giving their team a 7-0 lead.

The Redhound defense held Wayne County on its first possession, and scored again thanks to a 51-yard punt return that went for a touchdown, increasing their lead to 14-0 at the 9:40 mark of the first quarter.

Wayne County (8-4) managed to get on the scoreboard with 4:01 left in the first quarter by connecting on a 29-yard field goal, cutting its deficit to 14-3.

Then Corbin’s offense exploded for 14 points in the final four minutes of the first quarter.

Elam and Cima hooked up for a second touchdown connection, a 56-yarder, to make the score, 21-3, while Cole Stevens broke loose with a 17-yard touchdown run at the 1:55 mark, pushing the Redhounds’ advantage to 28-3.

Elam’s third touchdown pass, a 30-yarder to Estep, gave Corbin a 35-3 lead just 20 seconds into the second quarter.

The Redhounds added two more touchdowns to end the first half as Elam hit Colton Creekmore for a 27-yard touchdown pass to make the score, 42-3, while the duo hooked up again (30-yard touchdown pass) with no seconds left on the clock, to make the score, 49-3 at halftime.

Clay Akins added a 50-yard touchdown run at the 2:07 mark of the third quarter, extending Corbin’s lead to 56-3.
