WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg’s girls varsity basketball team celebrated its 50th year with a convincing 54-18 win over Ligon Cogo as 11 players scored for the Lady Yellow Jackets in the win.
“Great start to our 50th year with a win,” Williamsburg coach Melissia Douglas said. “So glad to have all the ladies on the floor and to score. I am very excited to see this season start We have a great group of ladies that share the ball well.”
Williamsburg (1-0) took a 13-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Yellow Jackets led 28-8 at halftime and 38-14 entering the fourth quarter.
Douglas’ squad outscored Ligon Cogo,16-4, in the game’s final eight minutes to secure the win.
Hannah Creekmore led Williamsburg with 12 points, scoring six of those in the first quarter. Presley Spicer added seven points while Braylee Evans and Kendall Hamlin added six points apiece.
The Lady Yellow Jackets will be back in action Friday on the road against Oneida Baptist.
