SOMERSET — James Prewitt’s first game as head coach of the Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats ended as well as he could have hoped.
His Lady Wildcats went on the road and put on a dominating effort, defeating Somerset Christian, 51-22.
Lynn Camp (1-0) dominated from start to finish, building a 12-3 lead at the end of the first quarter while holding a 24-5 advantage at halftime.
The Lady Wildcats exploded for 20 points in the third quarter while taking a 44-9 cushion into the fourth quarter.
“I’m really proud of my girls tonight. They needed to build some confidence and enjoy playing the game. They came out and played excellent defense to start the game, which allowed us to jump to an early lead,” Prewitt said. Somerset Christian is a scrappy bunch. They play really hard and they are really young. They are going to get better and better every week.
“Lauren Partin did a great job around the paint,” he added. “She is really consistent in the middle of the floor, but we want to get her more comfortable facing the basket. Maddy Weymers really shot the ball well, especially in the second half. Lily Henize did a great job taking care of the basketball and playing solid defense on their best player. The combination of Cambree Prewitt and Emily Gray were really good on the boards, which allowed us to push the ball in transition. There were some young girls that gave us valuable minutes too, Bella Fox, Aubrey Hollin, and Jayden Petrey are going to be invaluable as the season wears on.”
Lauren Partin led all scorers with 23 points. She scored six points in the first quarter while adding six more points in the second quarter. Partin added 11 more points in the third quarter.
Madison Weymers drilled two 3-pointers and scored 12 points while Lily Henize, Cambree Prewitt, and Emily Gray added four points apiece. Emma Maurer and Aubrey Hollin added two points apiece.
Lynn Camp will be back in action again Tuesday with a road matchup against Somerset.
