Lady Redhounds remain unbeaten with 80-25 win over Barbourville

CORBIN — Four players scored in double figures as Corbin ran its record to 2-0 thanks to an 80-25 win over Barbourville on Thursday.

The Lady Redhounds’ defensive pressure was on full display during the 57-point victory, holding the Lady Tigers to under double digits in scoring during all four quarters.

“Great team effort tonight from the Lady Redhounds,” Corbin coach Isaac Wilson said. “I thought our starters really came in focused and that trickle down to everyone. I believe each night it’s gonna fall on our top five to set the tone and to ensure that our basketball team is ready to play. We played with a lot of energy and effort on both sides of the floor, and I feel that that was expected at being our home opener for this season.

“We have to continue to stay focused on the task at hand and this team can end up being really special,” he added. “I thought everybody that got into the game tonight contributed and got better as individuals which in total makes us a better basketball team.

“This is probably the most focused basketball team I have had at this time of the year since being at Corbin,” Wilson continued. “They have a chip on their shoulder and they continue to trust their teammates, each and every day. Both of those attributes are needed to have a good basketball team and I really like what I’m seeing early on in this basketball season. We have a quick turnaround as we host the Harlan County Black Bears tomorrow night. We will see how we respond having games in back-to-back nights and I’m anxious to watch this team continue to grow.”

Corbin hit seven 3-pointers while building a 30-9 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Redhounds held a 62-11 cushion at halftime before putting the game away by outscoring Barbourville, 18-12, during the second half.

Kylie Clem led Corbin in scoring for the second straight game with a 23-point output while Addy Wilson scored 14 points. Raegan Walker finished with 12 points, and Lydia King chipped in 12 points.

The Lady Redhounds will be back in action Friday against Harlan County.
