CORBIN — It might have been cold outside but Whitley County was red-hot inside Lynn Camp’s gym on Friday, knocking down nine 3-pointers to defeat the Wildcats, 71-32.
“Good win on the road,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “We came out a little flat in the but quarter but were able to pick it up after that.
“It was good to see us hit some shots and hopefully we can carry that forward,” he added. “We got a good test tomorrow, so it will be good to see how our guys do on a back-to-back.”
Led by Bryson Mahan’s 19-point scoring effort, the Colonels (2-0) used a 29-6 run during the second half to take control of the contest.
Whitley County led 15-9 after the first quarter but seven points by Levi Jackson and six points by Riley Fuson allowed the Colonels’ lead grow to 44-15 at halftime.
Fuson added five more points in the third quarter while Whitley County hit three 3-pointers, extending its lead to 61-26 with eight minutes remaining. Fuson finished with 13 points while Jackson added 10 points.
