Maddox Huff scores 49 to lead Harlan County past Corbin, 91-87

HARLAN — Harlan County’s Maddox Huff scored 49 points while hitting six 3-pointers to lead Harlan County to a 91-87 victory over Corbin.

Huff had the hot hand the entire game, scoring 14 points in the first quarter, nine in the second, 15 in the third and 11 in the fourth. He finished the game hitting 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Despite trailing 26-17 at the end of the first quarter, and 40-32 at halftime, the Redhounds never quit.

Corbin trailed 64-54 entering the fourth quarter before outscoring the Black Bears, 33-27, during the game’s final eight minutes.

“As expected, a little bit of rust in some areas due to lack of practice with our entire team, but overall I’m optimistic.

“I thought we showed a lot of grit and determination to come back from some fairly large deficits,” he added. “Ryder (Akins) and Dawson (Farmer) showed why they should be considered two of the best freshman in the state. With a lot of hard work and some extended stretches of practice I think we will be a contender for some championships come seasons end. Quick turnaround as we face another tough opponent in Madison central tomorrow.”

Akins led Corbin with 35 points while Farmer added 16 points, Eli Pietrowski scored 12 points, and Conner Blackburn hit three 3-pointers, finishing with 11 points.
