Redhounds hang tough before falling 67-58 to Madison Central

LONDON — Tony Pietrowski’s Corbin Redhounds continue to be challenged by a tough slate, and have already shown they’re going to be a tough team to beat.

The Redhounds dropped a 91-87 decision on Friday to defending 13th Region champion Harlan County and followed with a hardfought 67-58 loss to 12th Region power Madison Central during Saturday’s Legacy Nissan Classic.

Eli Pietrowski led Corbin with 19 points — all coming during the second half. Ryder Akins added 15 points while Zach Reynolds added nine points and Dawson Farmer finished with eight points.

“Two tough opponents in two days,” Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski said. “A bit frustrating at times but ultimately we know we will be better from these games.

“Had a good opportunity to win as we were tied going into the fourth,” he added. “A few breaks and some better execution in certain situations and I think we win. Excited to watch this team grow. We aren’t even close to the team I think we can be.”

The game was close throughout with the Redhounds (0-2) trailing 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and 25-22 at halftime.

Corbin tied the game entering the fourth quarter as Eli Pietrowski torched the nets for 15 points while Akins added seven points.

The Redhounds ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, getting outscored, 22-9.

Corbin will be back in action Monday at home against Lynn Camp.
