Colton Rawlings knocks down six 3-pointers, scores game-high 21 points during Cardinals’ 70-47 rout of Clay County

LONDON — The South Laurel Cardinals knocked down the outside shot while displaying solid defense again during their Ted Cook Classic matchup against regional foe Clay County.

Add those two ingredients together, and the Cardinal faithful saw their team pick up a convincing 70-47 win.

South Laurel hit 10 3-pointers in the win while hitting 18-of-23 shot attempts from the free-throw line.

Colton Rawlings hit six 3-pointers while finishing with a team-best 21 points while Jordan Mabe added 18 points. Mabe also hit 8-of-10 shot attempts from the free-throw line.

Landon Howard knocked down three 3-pointers, adding 10 points while Kaiden McQueen finished with nine points.

South Laurel led 16-11 after the first quarter but out the defensive clamps down in the Tigers in the second quarter, limiting Clay County to only five points while building a 33-16 lead at halftime.

The Cardinals continued to control the game in the second half, outscoring the Tigers, 37-31, to pick up the 23-point win.

Adon Grubb led Clay County (1-1) with 20 points while Jerrod Roark finished with 16 points.

South Laurel will be back in action Tuesday on the road against North Laurel.
