Yellow Jackets remain perfect, slip past Harlan with 48-44 win

WILLIAMSBURG — Led by Andrew Smith’s 15-point scoring effort, Williamsburg did just enough to pull off a 48-44 win over Harlan on Monday.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-0 as Conner Saylor added 10 points while Cooper Prewitt and Reece Hatcher chipped in eight points apiece.

“We are fortunate to pick up another win,” Williamsburg coach Anthony Hibbard said. “Early on, it was hard for us to find or establish any kind of rhythm because of foul trouble and injuries. We did have some good moments in the third that helped us build our lead. In the moment, it was tough.

“However, I am glad we got to experience this game early in the season,” he added. “We did not have a lot of things going for us, but I’m so proud of our resilience. Proud of the guys that came off the bench to give us some valuable minutes. Incredibly proud of Andrew Smith and Cooper Prewitt’s effort on the glass. Both easily had double-digit rebounds. We can definitely build and improve from this game. Excited to get back after it tomorrow.”
