BOONEVILLE — Whitley County continued its impressive play, beginning the season with a 4-0 mark for the first time since 2021 after defeating defending 14th Region champion Owsley County in the road, 56-26.
The Lady Colonels turned in a stellar display of defensive pressure while knocking down clutch shots when needed.
Whitley County got off to a slow start in the first quarter, scoring only six points, but got things going offensively the remainder of the game.
“Great team win on the road,” Whitley County coach Michael Petrey said. “We did a good job executing a defensive game plan. This team just keeps getting better offensively and defensively. We put an emphasis on guarding the basketball without fouling and the girls responded.
“We started a little slow offensively, but once we settled in our transition game picked up and we made the extra pass when needed,” he added. “It was good to see some perimeter shots go in to complement our post play.”
Jonna Rice led Whitley County with 13 points while Maddy Hopkins added 12 points and Khylea Collier finished with 11 points.
The Lady Colonels will be back in action at home Friday against Madison Southern.
