HAZARD — Knox Central sophomore McKenzie Hensley’s block of Corbin’s Kylie Clem’s layup attempt, combined with Halle Collins consecutive rebounds, followed by a basket, played huge roles in the Lady Panthers ending the Lady Redhounds’ reign as WYMT Mountain Classic champions on Saturday.
Hensley’s block came with 1:30 remaining with the game tied at 51 apiece.
Shelbie Mills followed with a free throw while Collins sealed the deal by collecting back-to-back rebounds, and scoring with 7.9 seconds remaining to give Knox Central a 54-51 win.
The Lady Panthers (4-0) were staring at a 42-36 deficit with three minutes remaining in the third quarter before rallying to get the win.
Steve Warren’s squad advances to the championship game at 6 p.m. today and will face-off against North Laurel, as the top two ranked teams in the region will battle things out.
Collins led Knox Central with another double-double, finishing with 16 points and over 10 rebounds. Shelbie Mills added 13 points while Hannah Melton finished with eight points.
Kylie Clem led Corbin (4-1) with 18 points along with Raegan Walker.
