It didn’t take the Bobcats long to get on the scoreboard first. A 13-yard pass from Blake a Burnett to Daniel Thomas, set up Thomas’ 43-yard touchdown run to give Bell County a 6-0 lead. Burnett added the two-point conversion to push the Bobcats’ lead to 8-0 at the 10:52 mark of the first quarter.
The touchdown didn’t faze the Colonels, though.
A 47-yard pass from Tye Hamblin to Shane Parker set up Hunter Smith’s six-yard touchdown run, as Whitley County added the two-point conversion to tie the contest at eight apiece with 8:05 left in the first quarter.
Dawson Woolum took over on Bell County’s ensuing possession, breaking loose for a 50-yard run while scoring on a 10-yard run to give the Bobcats a 16-8 lead with 6:16 to go in the first quarter.
Thomas added his second rushing touchdown of the game, a 39-yarder, with 1:13 left in the first quarter, giving Bell County a 22-8 edge.
Burnett added another touchdown run at the 3:27 mark of the first half as his one-yarder pushed the Bobcats’ lead to 30-8.
Bell County managed to blow the game open right before the end of the half as Woolum recovered a fumble and ran 95 yards for the score, moving his team’s advantage to 38-8 at halftime.
The Colonels fought back in the second half behind two touchdown passes from Hamblin, and a rushing score from Hamlin to pull to within 38-28 with 6:58 remaining in regulation but the Colonels couldn’t get any closer.
