PINEVILLE — South Laurel’s Jordan Mabe tossed in a game-high 27 points while Josh Steele followed with 13 points to lead the Cardinals past Montgomery County with a 63-54 overtime win on Saturday.
The Cardinals led 19-1 at the end of the first quarter and 29-17 at halftime before taking a 44-34 advantage into the fourth quarter.
The Indians rallied in the final eight minutes, forcing overtime before South Laurel outscored them, 11-2, improving to 4-0 on the season.
“Great team win,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. “I think we can learn from this and get better — challenges ahead and have to get better which I know we will and have a lot of guys pulling for each other. We have a tough stretch ahead and need everyone locked in and become the team we believe we can become — one percent better each day and focus on the next plays.”
