BARBOURVILLE — Barbourville handed Williamsburg its first loss, cruising past the Lady Yellow Jackets, 56-45, on Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers (3-3) jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the first half before building leads of 16 points at halftime, and 17 points entering the fourth quarter.
“Tough loss on the road. The first half put us in too deep of a hole,” Williamsburg coach Melissia Douglas said. “It’s tough when you get the momentum back but run out of time to fully capitalize on it. The effort in the second half shows our team’s resilience, though. With that kind of fight, we are in a good position moving forward.
“Overall, that’s a great mindset to have! It’s clear that the team’s effort and commitment to learning and applying new skills are paying off, even if the results didn’t reflect it this time,” she added. “Progress like this is crucial, and it will pay off in future games. Sometimes it’s about the process and growth rather than just the outcome. With that focus on improvement, we building a strong foundation for success. I’m very proud of each one but Hannah Creekmore is playing stronger each game and proving that she is a top player in the region.”
Layla Brock led Barbourville in scoring once again with 16 points while Macy Hoskins had nine points and Bre Engle added seven points.
Hannah Creekmore led Williamsburg (4-1) with 13 points while Braylee Evans added 11 points.
