BURLINGTON — Williamsburg dropped its second straight game but not before hanging tough with Beechwood during first round action of the Nell Fookes Classic.
The Lady Yellow Jackets (4-2) dropped a 49-33 decision but held their own throughout the contest.
“We had a sluggish start and missed a lot of layups,” Williamsburg coach Melissia Douglas said. “Only one player to score in the first quarter. At one time, we were within eight but made more errors. As a team, we need to play more confident and polish our offense.”
A slow start got the best of Williamsburg as the Lady Tigers outscored Melissia Douglas’ team, 16-2, in the first quarter.
The Lady Yellow Jackets trailed, 25-15, at halftime and 38-23 entering the fourth quarter.
Ellie Breeding led Williamsburg with 14 points while Presley Spicer followed with 10 points.
