BURLINGTON — Williamsburg continues to gain steam, picking up an impressive 54-39 win over Boone County during Saturday’s Nell Fookes Classic.
The Lady Yellow Jackets are now 5-2 on the season and will switch their focus to next week’s Magic City Winter Classic.
“Really glad to finish the Classic with a win today,” Williamsburg coach Melissia Douglas said. “We came out with the right mindset and were ready to play. Part of growing as a team is learning to adjust, and while we didn’t handle the travel yesterday as well as we’d like, we bounced back. Every player showed up with great intensity, and it made a big difference.”
“As a team we shot 75 percent from the free-throw line,” she added. “I love when our team numbers are high and improving. Hannah Creekmore was awarded the player of the game with her season high of 19 points. She also shot alone 83 percent from the free-throw line. It’s always nice to travel and have an overnight trip. The girls are making memories and having fun.”
Williamsburg continued its impressive defensive play, limiting the Lady Rebels to only 12 points in the first half while building a 28-12 lead.
The Lady Yellow Jackets continues to hold on to the lead in the second half and put Boone County away.
Hannah Creekmore led the way with 19 points while Abby Moses scored nine points. Lorelei Coleman and Ellie Breeding scored seven points apiece.
