Sharp comes through in the clutch, Colonels capture Battle in the Village title

MARYVILLE, TENN. — With his team trailing 54-53 with seconds remaining, Whitley County’s Garrett Sharp did what he does best — coming through in the clutch.

His buzzer-beater gave the Colonels a 55-54 win over Lakeview Christian while helping Whitley County captured the Battle in the Village championship.

The Colonels went 3-0 in the tournament while improving to 8-2 in the process.

Riley Fuson led Whitley County with 16 points while Sharp had 11 points and Bryson Mahan finished with 10 points.

“Great game for our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “We battled hard all game versus a Lakeway team that has a great team, with great size and good guards. Our kids battled hard, extremely proud of them.

“That was our sixth game in nine days and we just kept coming after them,” he added. “We rebounded the ball well, and Garrett Sharp hit a buzzer beater. We will take a couple days and then get back at it in our Borderline Classic.”
