Lady Cardinals remain red-hot, limit Mason County to season-low 31 points

MOUNT STERLING — Another day, another stellar defensive effort for coach Tod Windlan’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals.
And for the second consecutive day, South Laurel handed a team its first loss of the season.
This time around it was Mason County as the Lady Cardinals defeated the Lady Royals, 59-31, while holding them to their lowest point output of the season.
South Laurel will be back in action Sunday at 6 p.m. in the title game of the Gateway Holiday Classic against host Montgomery County.
“We played great team defense and ran our offensive actions well and resulted in good quality shots,” Windlan said. “(Maci) Messer played a nice all-around game and (Ryleigh) Bretz was very good with eight points and nine rebounds while holding their big post player to four points. (Callie) Jones and (Aubrey) Bundy played very solid and had great defense on their point guard. (Jamie) Buenaventura and (Skeeter) Mabe got us off to a good start in first quarter by scoring and rebounding. Great team win and go South Cards. Tomorrow night we play Montgomery County for championship at 6 p.m.”
