Lady Cardinals hang tough before falling to unbeaten Breckinridge County, 52-48.

SCOTTSVILLE — They didn’t pull off the win, but Tod Windlan’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals held their own against unbeaten Breckinridge County during Friday’s first round action of the Lady Invitational of the South Laurel.
Breckinridge County entered the contest with a perfect 9-0 mark, but had to battle to the end to get the win, slipping past the Lady Cardinals, 52-48.
“Tough hard-fought game today,” Windlan said. “We played well at times and just needed to make some plays down the stretch that we didn’t get done. Proud of how hard we played and competed. We at 11 a.m. CST tomorrow. Games like this will make us better down the road.”
The Lady Cardinals held a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, and a 23-19 advantage at halftime.
Windlan’s squad trailed 35-34 entering the fourth quarter before getting outscored, 17-14, during the final eight minutes.
Skeeter Mabe scored 12 of her team-best 14 points in the second half while Macie Messer added 13 points and Jamie Buenaventura chipped in 10 points.
