Walker’s 13 point fourth-quarter effort highlights Corbin’s double digit comeback win

SOMERSET — Raegan Walker scored 13 of her team-best 28 points to lead Corbin to a 72-71 win over Menifee County during Friday’s Jab Bartley Law Office Lady Briar Jumper Holiday Classic.
Walker was dominant down the stretch, hitting all three of her free throw attempts in the final eight minutes while leading the Lady Redhounds’ 25-12 run in the fourth quarter, battling back from a 12-point deficit.
Kylie Clem added 14 points while Addy Wilson finished with 13 points. Lydia King chipped in eight points in the win.
“I will tell you the same thing that I told our basketball team today —  it’s a whole lot better to win ugly than to lose pretty,” Corbin  coach Isaac Wilson said. “Hats off to Menifee County. They have a nice basketball team and helped contribute to our sloppy play.
“Today’s game is the epitome of that quote,” he added. “We were not our best for four quarters today. We missed layups, we missed free throws, we executed poorly and our defense struggled. But what I like most is that when we did not have our best we continued to show grit and possessed a never say die mentality that ended up winning the basketball game today. We have a quick turnaround and play again tomorrow against Tates Creek at 6 p.m.”
Corbin (8-1) trailed 22-16 at the end of the first quarter before finding itself behind 10 points (41-31) at halftime.
The Lady Redhounds trailed, 60-46, entering the fourth quarter before making one finally rally in the fourth quarter.
