South Laurel’s run for the Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic title came to an end on Saturday after dropping a 66-64 double overtime decision to Northshore.
Both teams battled throughout with Northshore, pulling out the win in the final minute of the second overtime.
“Guys played hard just have to make plays down the stretch and keep them off the foul line,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said.
After starting the season with a 5-0 mark, the Cardinals (6-3) have posted a 6-3 record since with losses against top notch teams — Bryan Station, North Oldham and Northshore.
Josh Steele led South Laurel with 25 points while Jordan Mabe finished with 17 points despite fouling out in the first overtime. Colton Rawlings added nine points while Kaiden McQueen scored seven points.
The Cardinals are scheduled to be back in action Sunday at 6 p.m.
