Lady Cardinals finish Lady Invitational of the South with 45-32 win

SCOTTSVILLE — South Laurel snapped its three-game losing skid by turning in another stellar defensive effort during its 45-32 win over North Hardin on Sunday.

The Lady Cardinals (6-4) received a 25-point, eight-rebound effort from Maci Messer while Ryleigh Bretz had six points and six rebounds. Jamie Buenaventura also finished with six points.

“We got off to a great start, got some turnovers off our pressure, and shared the ball very well,” South Laurel coach Tod Windlan said. “We had some mental mistakes in the second quarter which allowed them to get back in the game at half.

“We came out and did some nice things in the third quarter to take control of the game and we shot it better from the free-throw line,” he added. “Messer had a big game with 25 points and eight steals. Bretz was very good with six points, and six steals. Mabe and Jones had a very good floor games only committing two turnovers while dishing out numerous assists. We are back in action on January 2 at Jackson County.”
