SEVIERVILLE, TENN. — Michael Petrey’s Qhitley County Lady Colonels finished their play in the Winterfest Shootout in fine fashion on Monday, defeating Tennessee’s Warren County High School, 45-34.
The Lady Colonels (8-3) locked down on defense, allowing an opponent to score in the 30s or below for the sixth time this season.
Led by Maddy Hopkins’ 26-point scoring effort, Whitley County managed to pull away in the second half.
Jonna Rice scored eight points while Aubree Clemens contributed seven points in the win.
“We are proud of the response from our team after having consecutive losses,” Petrey said. “The competition in this tournament was really good and we can use these last three games to continue to improve moving forward.
“I felt like our energy and team defense was better today than in the previous two games,” he added. “Again, really proud of our team’s response to adversity and remaining positive.”
The Lady Colonels will hit the road Friday in a key 13th Region matchup against Jackson County.
