MCKEE — The tournament battles South Laurel has gone through during the holidays paid off in a big way during Thursday’s 13th Region road matchup with Jackson County.
The Lady Cardinals picked up a 60-39 win over Jackson County while improving to 7-4 during the process.
South Laurel’s defensive effort was on full display during the 21-point win, limiting the Lady Generals (8-5) to their lowest point output of the season.
“We shared the ball well and our bench played well tonight,” South Laurel oath Tod Windlan said. “Maci Messer had a big game with 22 points and 12 rebounds, Skeeter Mabe had a very good all around game with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. We also switched her to (Abby) Gilbert and she was able to limit her position down low. Callie Jones had a good game with 10 points and two assists while playing solid defense.
“Aubrey Bundy and McKenna Andes energized us off the bench with Bundy getting seven points, two steals and two assists,” he added. “Andes drew a charge, had two steals and two points. Lady Cards return to action Monday, January 6 versus North Laurel.”
Gilbert led Jackson County with 16 points.
