North Laurel runs 49th District win streak to 49 games with 55-14 win over Clay County

MANCHESTER — North Laurel’s dominance over 49th District teams continues on Friday.

The Lady Jaguars ran their district win streak to 49 games, and their win streak over Clay County to 15 games during their 55-14 rout of the Lady Tigers.

The 14 points are the lowest point output Clay County has scored against North Laurel.

The win improved Eddie Mahan’s squad to a perfect 11-0 overall, and 1-0 against district opponents.

“It’s always good to beat a district team,” Mahan said. “We didn’t convert on numerous two on one situations and we seemed hesitant even in the half court.  I know it is hard for a team to stay focused when you jump out to an early lead but mental focus and toughness is what makes the difference in postseason. It something this team still needs to work on.”

The Lady Jaguars jumped out to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter, and never looked back. They led 41-10 at halftime, and 49-10 entering the fourth quarter.

Senior Brooke Nichelson led the way with 16 points while Bella Sizemore and Mariella Claybrook added nine points apiece. Paisley Kilburn scored eight points while Haley Combs finished with seven points.
