MIDDLESBORO — Williamsburg had hopes of surprising host Middlesboro in first round action of Sunday’s 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic Tournament, but struggled on the offensive end of things, losing, 66-39.
Middlesboro (7-3), led by Keevi Betts’ 19 points, Millie Roberts’ 17 points, and Emily Lambert’s 15 points built a 28-20 halftime lead, and used a 23-11 run in the third quarter to pull away.
“We came out with a better mindset tonight,” Williamsburg coach Melissia Douglas said. “Played a really good first half. I was very please with Abby Moses. She shot with confidence tonight and it delivered a game high for her this season. Presley Spicer is continuing to bring her points and rebounds to each game.
“The third quarter hurt us bad,” she added. “Roberts hit two great shots and then another three and we were set back. We need to continue to tighten our game offensively making less turnovers and taking more shots. Losing is never is easy but we will just keep correcting our mistakes to close the gaps.”
Presley Spicer led Williamsburg (5-7) with 14 points while Abby Moses added 10 points.
