Maddox Huff turns in 41-point effort to lead Harlan County to Kentucky 2A, Section 7 championship

HARLAN — Maddox Huff showed why he’s considered one of the best players in the state and a contender for Mr. Basketball after pouring in 41 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, to lead Harlan County to a hardfought, 63-60, win over Bell County along with capturing the Kentucky 2A, Section 7 championship.

Huff turned in a memorable effort, scoring 10 points in the first quarter, four points in the second quarter, and 17 points in the third quarter while teammate Reggie Cottrell added eight points, Trenton Cole scored six points and Jace Carter, and Brody Napier added four points apiece.

Harlan County (12-4) built a 17-14 lead in the first quarter, but trailed, 25-23, at halftime. They faced a 48-46 deficit entering the final quarter of play before edging out the Bobcats.

Blake Burnett led Bell County (12-4) with 27 points while Ethan Buell added 20 points. Cameron Hall added eight points in the loss.
