Panthers roll after two-week layoff, defeat OBI, 87-71

BARBOURVILLE — Knox Central improved to 11-3 thanks to an 87-71 win over Oneida Baptist on Thursday.

The Panthers showed no signs of rustiness after being off for two weeks as freshman Hayden Melton led the way with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Tydus Summers had 16 points while Grayson Burton totaled 15 points and six assists. Austin Bargo added 11 points and five assists while Evan Hubbard chipped in 10 points.

“Great game coming off a two week weather layoff,” Knox Central coach Mitchell Madden said. “I was worried we may come out sluggish but we came out firing on all cylinders. We played very aggressive and very unselfish. This team just finds the open man they don’t care who scores. “We had five kids in double figures and two more kids with eight each and that makes us a hard team to guard when everyone is contributing,” he added. “Very solid win against a very physical well coached team in OBI, Coach Gritton is one of my favorites I always respect and appreciate him.”
