LONDON — After dropping a double-digit district loss on the road to Corbin this past week, South Laurel’s responded in a big way on Friday against 50th District foe Whitley County.
The Cardinals (10-5 overall, 1-1 vs. 50th District teams) put on a defensive clinic that could very well have been their best of the season, limiting the Colonels to only two field goals and four points in the first half en route to their dominating, 53-21, win.
The 21-point output turned out to be the Colonels’ lowest of the season while South Laurel’s has now limited its opponents to 24 points or less twice this season and under 50 points for the sixth time.
“Really proud of our effort much better than the last time we played,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. “We still have to continue to work on our focus and effort on both ends of the floor.”
The Cardinals led 14-3 at the end of the first quarter, and 37-4 at halftime before wrapping up the win in the second half.
Max Fullmer was the lone Cardinal in double figures, finishing with 11 points while Colton Rawlings added nine points, and Josh Steele and Jordan Mabe scored eight points apiece.
Bryson Mahan and Garrett Sharp Whitley County (12-4, 1-1) with six points apiece.
