Tigers Roar: Clay County caps off Bobby Keith Classic with 63-58 win over South Laurel 

MANCHESTER — Mike Jones’ Clay County Tigers picked up their biggest win to date, knocking off preseason favorite South Laurel, 63-58, to cap off Saturday’s Bobby Keith Classic.

The win improved the Tigers to 13-4 while the Cardinals suffered their second setback of the week, falling to 10-6.

The two teams had met back during the Ted Cook Classic with South Laurel coming out on top, 70-47.

But things were different Saturday.

Clay County took an 18-13 lead into the second quarter and the game was nip and tuck throughout the final 24 minutes.

The Tigers led 33-29 at halftime, and 46-42 entering the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals suffered a big blow toward the end of the third quarter when Josh Steele left the game with an injury.

Clay County led 51-44 with 4:51 remaining in the game and managed to hold on to pull out the five point win.

Adon Grubb led the Tigers with 18 points while Ethan Jackson had 14 points, and Aiden Wagers finished with 10 points.

South Laurel’s Jordan Mabe led all scorers with 20 points while Max Fullmer finished with 16 points.
