WILLIAMSBURG — After dropping a 50th District heartbreaker to Corbin on Tuesday, Michael Petrey’s Whitley County Lady Colonels got back to their winning ways on Thursday.
Whitley County notched win No. 12 by handing visiting Barbourville a 50-36 loss.
The Lady Colonels took control of the game in the first half, building a 22-7 edge in the first quarter while extending it to a 30-11 cushion at halftime.
Barbourville (5-14) cut its deficit to 38-25 entering the fourth quarter before Whitley County pulled away in the final eight minutes.
“Tonight we got to acknowledge our seniors, Autumn Sawyers, Makenna Taylor, Femke Haes,and Manager Brileigh Logan.” Petrey said. “All three are great student athletes and are high character individuals that will be successful in life.
“We didn’t play our best tonight offensively and that was because Barbourville played extremely hard on defense,” he added. “Our offensive execution has to be better.”
Aubree Clemens led the Lady Colonels with 13 points while Khylea Ray Collier followed with an 11-point output. Autumn Sawyers finished with eight points while Maddy Hopkins chipped in seven points.
Marleigh Martin hit three 3-pointers for the Lady Tigers and scored 12 points while Layla Brock added 11 points.
