HARLAN — The South Laurel Lady Cardinals continue their winning ways after rolling to an easy, 74-49, road win over Harlan County.
The Lady Cardinals (13-4) have now won eight games in a row and are only one of two 13th region teams still unbeaten against regional opponents with a record of 7-0.
“We got off to a nice start and the took our foot off the gas on defense and quit rebounding,” South Laurel coach Tod Windlan said. “We got in some early foul trouble with (Jamie) Buenaventura and (Aubrey) Bundy picking up two fouls apiece in the first quarter.
“Maci Messer led us with 19 points and Callie Jones had 16,” he added. “Jamie Buenaventura had all nine of her points in the second half. Shelby Smith chipped in with eight points. Skeeter Mabe had seven assists, five points and five rebounds. We had some good performances off the bench in Mia Hibbard, Kenzie Fannin, Emma Adams and Shelby Smith, combining for 23 points. Reagan Clem led the Lady Black Bears (4-13) with 17 points and five 3-pointers.
