MOUNT VERNON — South Laurel picked up its second consecutive road win, recording a 55-41 win over the Rockets.
“Really proud of how our guys are responding,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. “We have a lot to work on and it’s going to take a group effort. Our guys older guys are doing a great job of leading and that what we have to have right now.”
The Cardinals (12-6) put some distance between themselves and Rockcastle County by building a 15-7 lead in the first quarter.
Jordan Mabe scored six points in the first quarter while Kaiden McQueen added four points, and Garrison Brown connected with a 3-pointer.
Two 3-pointers by Kaden Taylor, and one 3-pointer by Brendan Murphy combined with four points from Mabe, and three free throws by McQueen gave South Laurel a 10-point cushion (31-21) at halftime.
Max Fullmer got hot in the third quarter along with McQueen as both players scored six points apiece, pushing the Cardinals’ lead to 46-32 with eight minutes remaining.
Colton Rawlings scored five points in the fourth quarter while Mabe added four points as South Laurel put the game away.
