LONDON — North Laurel’s dominance against Clay County and 49th District teams continued on Friday with its 68-20 win.
The Lady Jaguars ran their win streak over the Lady Tigers to 16 games while capturing their 51st consecutive wins against 49th District opponents during the process.
North Laurel entered the game as the state’s No. 3 ranked team, and deservedly so, after improving to 16-0 with the 48-point win.
“We need to continue to work on some rotations and improve our focus but overall it was better than our showing at Clay County earlier in the season,” North Laurel coach Eddie Mahan said. “We are focused on trying to get ready for the tough road ahead of us.”
Senior Brooke Nichelson turned in another stellar effort for the Lady Jaguars, playing a little over 16 minutes while scoring a game-high 25 points with 23 of those coming in the first half. Mariella Claybrook added 16 points while Haley Combs scored eight points. Emma Carl and Paisley Kilburn added seven points apiece.
Claybrook scored 12 points in the first quarter while Nichelson added nine points as North Laurel led 24-5 entering the second quarter.
Nichelson added 14 points in the second quarter while Combs hit a 3-pointer, and added five points to help give the Lady Jaguars a 45-13 cushion at halftime.
North Laurel outscored Clay County, 23-7, during the final 16 minutes to wrap-up the win.
