HAZARD — Powered by Lauren Partin’s 35-point, 17-rebound effort, Lynn Camp snapped its six-game losing skid while recording its first win of the new year by defeating Cordia, 64-34, on Friday.
Madison Weymers added nine points while Lillian Henize added eight points as the Lady Wildcats improved to 5-9.
“I challenged our girls to take care of business early tonight, and they started a little sluggish, but came around pretty quick,” Lynn Camp coach Jason Prewitt said. “I told them that any time you come to the mountains to play, you have to take care of business. I have seen and coached in games that should be winnable, but you let a team hang around, and it gets interesting.
“They needed a team win,” he added. “They have been working hard and battling every practice and game. Every player got to play, and everyone contributed, which is great for the girls and their morale.
“Lauren Partin had another double-double,” Prewitt continued. “She had 35 and 17. Lilly Henize did a great job driving tonight and she defensively held their best offensive player to five points. Madison Weymers, Cambree Prewitt, Jayden Petrey, and Aubrey Hollin all made great contributions. We are going to enjoy tonight, but starting tomorrow all of our focus and energy will be on Barbourville Tuesday. I have told our girls for a few weeks that this game is the biggest game of the year.”
