Mabe scores 28 points to lead South Laurel past Whitley County 

WILLIAMSBURG — South Laurel outlasted Whitley County on Tuesday to improve to 3-1 in 50th District play with a big home game against Corbin looming on Friday.

The Cardinals handed the Colonels a 66-55 loss to improve to 13-6 while Whitley County fell 13-7 overall and 1-3 against district opponents.

“It was a tough 50th District Game like usual,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. “Whitley really played well and coach has done a great job with his team. We are still figuring it out and our guys and given us everything they have. Really proud of them.”

The Cardinals led throughout the contest, and held a 27-17 advantage at halftime, and a 45-32 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Jordan Mabe sealed the win in the fourth quarter, hitting all nine of his free throw attempts. He finished with 28 points while going 20-of-21 from the free-throw line.

Colton Rawlings followed with 13 points while Garrison Brown added nine points. The Cardinals finished the game 30-of-36 at the free-throw line.

Bryson Mahan led Whitley County with 19 points while Riley Fuson scored 16 points.
