Lady Colonels pick up road win against Somerset

SOMERSET — Whitley County’s Maddy Hopkins turned in an impressive effort, scoring a game-high 20 points to lead the Lady Colonels to a 57-32 win over Somerset on Saturday.

Khylea Ray Collier added 13 points while Aubree Clemens added nine points.

The win improved Whitley County to 14-7. The Lady Colonels will be back in action Tuesday in a key 50th District road matchup against Corbin.

Whitley County is currently 1-3 against district opponents while the Lady Redhounds are 3-2.

“I thought Maddy Hopkins really stepped up and made some plays for us today,” Whitley County coach Michael Petrey said. “We started a little slower and she did a good job scoring the basketball today. KR shot the ball well today and when that happens it opens things up for others. It was good to get a win, but now our attention has to focus on the district games we have coming up this week.”
