Redhounds drop second straight, fall to Evangel Christian in overtime

CORBIN — Tony Pietrowski’s Corbin Redhounds have hit a bump in the road with less than three weeks remaining in the regular season.

Corbin (14-7) dropped its second game in a row for only the second time this season after falling to Evangel Christian, 74-69, in overtime on Saturday.

The Redhounds were coming off Friday’s loss to rival South Laurel, and dropped consecutive games for the first time since opening the season with two losses.

“Disappointed with the loss,” Pietrowski said. “We played really well for the most part today, but couldn’t put together enough stops late to win.”

With games against Barbourville, Whitley County and North Laurel coming up this week, Pietrowski said his team needs to regroup.

“We’ve got three big ones next week,” Pietrowski said.

Corbin jumped out to a 19-16 lead, and led 35-28 at halftime before Evangel Christian made their push.

Andreas Jimenez-Conway caught fire and hit four of his 12 3-pointers to help Evangel Christian get back into the game while taking a 51-50 lead during the process entering the fourth quarter.

Ryder Akins scored seven of his 34 points in the fourth quarter, allowing the Redhounds to force overtime, but a 3-pointer by Conway, who scored 36 points, and a three points from Eric Gandol allowed Evangel Christian to pull off the win.
