North Laurel swim teams shine during 9th Region Swimming Championships

BARBOURVILLE — The North Laurel swim team turned in a fantastic showing during this past weekend’s 9th Region Swimming Championships.
North Laurel placed fifth overall (boys/girls teams combined) out of 19 teams while the girls turned in a fifth place effort, and the boys’ team finished sixth.
“Words can not describe how proud I am of this team,” North Laurel coach Amber Murray said. “We had many PRs, five school records broken, and three individuals to qualify for State in their individual events. Every single person that attended the meet, swam a new personal best. That itself is amazing.”
Kyra Lewis (100 Breaststroke), Avery Murray (50 Freestyle), and Cameron Wagovich (100 Breaststroke) are the three state qualifiers for North Laurel. Murray was also named to the All-Region team.
