PAYBACK: Top-ranked Lady Redhounds hand North Laurel two-set loss, winning 25-23, 25-18

The defending 13th Region champion Corbin Lady Redhounds have now exacted revenge on both of their regional losses after defeating North Laurel in straight sets on Monday.

Corbin (10-3) opened the season with a loss to North Laurel, and then eventually fell to Whitley County but since those losses, the Lady Redhounds continued to improve which led to wins over both teams.

“We came out tonight and wanted revenge,” Corbin coach Vanessa Ross said. “We looked at the stats from our previous game against North Laurel and realized that we made way to many mistakes. We really focused on serve receive at practice and realized that is where we make a lot of our mistakes. “Tonight, I felt that we passed really well and made very smart plays on the ball.

“I want to give a huge shoutout to the student section that has been following us,” she added. “They make a huge difference in our games. So thank you to all the students at Corbin High School, who drive to support the volleyball team. You all rock. As always, it’s a great day to be a Corbin Redhound.”

Ross’ squad has now won three in a row, and nine of their last 10 matches. The loss dropped North Laurel to 15-7.

Corbin showed why it entered this week as the region’s top ranked team, winning the first set against North Laurel, 25-23, while rolling past the Lady Jaguars in the second set, 25-18.

The Lady Redhounds will be back in action Tuesday at Barbourville while North Laurel, who saw its five-game win streak come to an end, will travel to play Whitley County.
