LONDON — Tod Windlan’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals remain the hottest team in the 13th Region, capturing their 12th win in a row to knock off Williamsburg, 80-17.
The win also sealed the 50th District’s top seed for the Lady Cardinals, who improved to 17-4 overall, and 6-0 against district competition.
The loss dropped Williamsburg to 6-13, and 0-2 against district opponents.
“Thought are kids came out in the first quarter and were focused and played well. Hard game to keep players focused but thought we did a good job of maintaining our focus.
“We play at North Laurel Thursday and then travel to Campbell County Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip,” he added. “Two quality opponents in next two games. Proud of our players and we need to continue to get better each day. Go Cards!”
South Laurel jumped out of the gate early, scoring 29 points in the first quarter while never looking back.
Macie Messer scored nine points in the first eight minutes while Aubrey Bundy added seven points as the Lady Cardinals built a 29-9 lead. Callie Jones and Messer added seven points apiece in the second quarter while Shelby Smith scored six points as South Laurel’s lead grew to 55-13 at halftime.
The Lady Cardinals put the finishing touches on the win by outscoring the Lady Yellow Jackets, 25-4, in the second half.
Messer led South Laurel with 18 points while Bundy added 10 points. Smith and Jones finished with nine points apiece.
Hannah Creekmore led Williamsburg with six points.
