BARBOURVILLE — Knox Central is moving on to the 51st District title game after capturing its third win of the season over Lynn Camp during Monday’s semifinal action of the 51st District Tournament.
Shelbie Mills scored 18 of her game-high 25 points to lead the Lady Panthers to a 82-27 victory over the Lady Wildcats.
“This group of girls has a lot of heart, determination, and grit,” Lynn Camp coach James Prewitt said. “They have overcame tons of adversity this year and still managed to improve every week. I am proud that I got to be their coach this year.
“We had a a few girls recognized through the 13th Region Media Network and the 13th Region Coach’s Association,” he added. “We feel that Lauren Partin (1st Team All-District and 2nd Team All-Region), Jayden Petrey (Newcomer of the Year), and Cambree Prewitt (Academic All-Region) all deserved the recognition they received. We are really proud of their effort and growth this year.
“Knox Central is a really good basketball team,” Prewitt continued. “They will compete for the Regional Championship. I wish Coach Warren the those ladies the best of luck moving forward.”
Knox Central led 26-4 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
The Lady Panthers had leads of 51-14, and 63-18, at the end of the second and third quarters, respectively.
Kaylynn smith hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points while Maggie Gibson added 12 points, and MacKenzie Hensley finished with 10 points.
Madison Weymers led Lynn Camp with eight points while Lauren Partin chipped in four points.
