WILLIAMSBURG— Despite hitting a couple of rough spots while finishing regular season play, Isaac Wilson’s Corbin Lady Redhounds looked like the team that many believe can be one of the front-runners to win the 13th Region Tournament.
The Lady Redhounds turned in a stellar effort during Monday’s semifinal matchup against Whitley County, cruising to an easy, 62-35 win.
“Great team win tonight,” Wilson said. “That is the most complete game we have put together all year offensively and defensively. We were locked in from the tip and executed the game plan well.
“We must enjoy this one for tonight and then get refocused for the district championship,” he added. “We will have a tall task at hand as South Laurel has played well all season. We were able to earn a chance to 3-peat as district champs and we earned another 32 mins on the season. Excited for the girls, program and community. We look forward to the future challenges that are ahead and will be prepared moving forward.”
Many believed Monday’s matchup was a toss-up with the two teams splitting a pair of games during regular season play.
But Corbin came out red-hot in the first quarter, building a 17-8 lead before holding a 37-19 edge at halftime.
The Lady Redhounds’ lead grew to 51-27 at the end of the third quarter before they wrapped up the 27-point win during the final eight minutes.
Raegan Walker dominated the paint, leading the way with 19 points while Lydia King added 17 points, and Kylie Clem finished with 13 points. Addy Wilson finished with two 3-pointers, and collected eight points.
Maddy Hopkins led the Lady Colonels with 11 points while Khylea Ray Collier and Aubree Clemens scored eight points apiece.
