WHITLEY ACES REGIONAL TEST: Lady Colonels hand North Laurel 3-1 loss on Tuesday

Whitley County got back to its winning ways on Tuesday, picking up an important region win over North Laurel in four sets.

The Lady Colonels won the first set, 25-155, before the Lady Jaguars tied things up at a set apiece with a 25-22.

Whitley County managed to slip past North Laurel in the third and fourth sets, winning, 26-14, and 25-23, respectively.

“This was a hard fought win for our girls,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “I thought North Laurel played well after the first set. We had seven service errors in the second set and just didn’t give ourselves a chance. I’m proud of our girls for digging in when they had to and pulling out 3-1 win over a really good team. There’s been times we would have folded and lost our energy, but the girls came together and made big plays when they had to.

“On to another big district match on Thursday with a scrappy Williamsburg team,” he added. “This win wasn’t always pretty, but when you don’t play your best and can still beat a good team. I think that says something about our team.”

The win improves the Lady Colonels to 2-0 against the Lady Jaguars this season. They are now 12-8 overall, and 8-1 against regional opponents.

North Laurel has now lost to both Corbin, and Whitley County in consecutive days. The Lady Jaguars entered the week with a five-game winning streak. They are now 15-8 overall and 8-3 against regional opponents.
