Lady Colonels’ rally falls short in loss to Jackson County 

WILLAMSBURG — Jackson County’s Candice Williams struck out 11 batters and allowed four hits during the Lady Generals’ 2-1 win over Whitley County.

Jackson County improved to 2-1 while the Lady Colonels falls to 1-2 after the Lady Generals scored two runs in the sixth inning and held off a late rally.

Whitley County pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t come up with the win.

“We didn’t make adjustments quick enough on the offensive side,” Whitley County coach Angela Singleton said. “Defensively, I felt like our girls were solid. Pitching was solid as well. We just need to be quicker about making offensive adjustments.”

Williams led Jackson County with two hits and an RBI while Kylie Moore finished with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored. Baylee Berry had a hit and scored once while Lexi Brockman and Blakelynn Fee both finished with a hit.

Caylee Singleton took the loss in the pitcher’s circle for Whitley County, tossing four hits while allowing two earned runs. She also struck out nine batters. Morgan Huddleston delivered two hits while Hallie Huddleston delivered a run-scoring hit.
