Jaguars drop 11-inning, 3-2 decision, to Southwestern

SOMERSET — North Laurel and Southwestern faced off in an 11-inning thriller that ended in heartbreaking fashion for the Jaguars.

With the game tied at two and two outs in the bottom of the 11th, the Warriors had runners on first and third when North Laurel attempted a hidden ball trick.

It seemed to have worked as the Jaguars tagged out the runner at third, but a balk was called instead due to the Jaguar pitcher stepping on the mound, giving Southwestern a 3-2 victory.

“It was a heck of a way to lose a game after playing 11 innings,” North Laurel  ouch Darrin McWhorter said. “Zack Johnston, Cam Hinkle and Ethan Anderson pitched Great.

“It was one of those games where every ball hit was right at someone and plays were made,” he added. “The way the game ended, we had two outs and runners on first and third. We did the hidden ball trick, got runner out at third but our pitcher stepped on the mound and that turns it into a balk — runner on third scores and game over. I was proud of our guys and that is a bad way to lose the game.”
